Celebrity Chefs, Sommeliers, and Photographers Are Hosting These 2026 and 2027 Sailings

Written by Kenna Reyner | June 4, 2026

There's a version of cruising organized around logistics: the port schedule, the shore excursion that ends before sailaway, the next destination on the map. And then there's the version where the thing you love most shapes the entire experience.

We've been watching both Scenic and Emerald develop their specialty programming for a few years now, and the 2026 and 2027 lineups represent the most considered versions of these offerings to date. Through Scenic's Discovery Series and Emerald's Savor the Moment Collection, both lines have built sailings that center passions rather than itineraries. Food, wine, photography, and creative exploration aren't afterthoughts here. They're the organizing principle.

For clients who've told us they want more from a sailing than a port list, these are the programs we keep coming back to.

Scenic Discovery Series

Scenic has long positioned itself at the ultra-luxury end of the river and expedition markets, and its Discovery Series sailings add something meaningful to that foundation. The focus is culinary. Through a program called Tastes of Discovery, Scenic has invited some of the most respected names in modern cuisine to sail aboard Scenic Eclipse II and host immersive culinary experiences throughout each voyage.

Among the featured chefs are Begoña Rodrigo, winner of Top Chef Spain and one of the defining voices in contemporary Mediterranean cuisine, and Gabriel Rodríguez, a finalist on Top Chef Mexico recognized for his approach to regional cooking. Both bring something beyond a demonstration dinner. The programming includes live cooking experiences, curated tastings, and menus shaped by the regions the ship is moving through. It's the kind of access that's genuinely difficult to replicate independently.

Scenic Eclipse II is designed for intimacy, and the all-inclusive model ensures every element is taken care of: butler service for every suite, access to up to ten dining venues, premium beverages, and included shore excursions. In our experience, Discovery Series departures are among the first to fill on Scenic's calendar. Guests who've sailed Scenic before often tell us these sailings feel like the fullest expression of what the line does best.

Emerald Savor the Moment Collection

Emerald Cruises operates across both river and yacht itineraries, and its Savor the Moment Collection spans several distinct themes. Most are available on select 2026 departures, with additional sailings extending into 2027. What we appreciate about this program is how specific each collection is. These aren't loosely themed sailings with a guest speaker attached. The programming is built in from the start.

For guests who travel with a camera as seriously as a passport, the Photography Collection offers something rare: genuine instruction in the field. Hosted by professional photographers, sail through some of Europe's most visually compelling landscapes while weaving workshops on composition, lighting, and storytelling throughout the journey rather than confining them to a scheduled session. A highlight is the Majestic Rhine sailing with photographer Gary Bodgon.

Wine-focused travelers will find the Sommelier Collection worth a close look. Featured on the Danube Delights itinerary, these sailings build expert-led tastings and programming into the fabric of each voyage. Emerald has also introduced a Rum Cruise that takes a more unexpected angle, pairing spirit tastings with cultural exploration across less-traveled destinations. It's one we've been recommending for clients who want something genuinely off the beaten path.

The Culinary Collection extends Emerald's specialty programming to its yacht sailings. A standout is the voyage through the Leeward Islands hosted by Chef Rachel Hargrove, known from Below Deck. The format is intimate and unpretentious: locally inspired menus, live cooking demonstrations, and a genuine sense that Caribbean food culture is part of how you experience the islands, not a backdrop to them. Additional departures with Chef Rachel are available in 2027, and based on the interest we've seen in the 2026 sailings, we'd encourage booking earlier rather than later.

The Best Time to Book Is Now!

Hosted departures on both Scenic and Emerald tend to fill well ahead of standard inventory, and availability on specific chef, photographer, and sommelier sailings is genuinely limited. These aren't programs where waiting to see how your schedule shakes out usually works in your favor.

Our advisors at Montecito Village Travel have worked closely with both Scenic and Emerald for years and know these products in detail: the ships, the itineraries, and the hosted experiences worth prioritizing. If any of these sailings are on your radar, we'd love to help you find the right fit. Reach out to us to start the conversation.
