Avalon_Waterways-Amazon-2Embark on a journey to one of the world’s vastly unexplored regions, the mighty Amazon. The Amazon Basin covers an area larger than Western Europe, but it’s in Peru’s Amazon where biodiversity is at its greatest and the rainforest is untamed. The Amazon basin accounts for nearly 40% of the South America continent and spans across eight countries: Brazil, Suriname, French Guiana, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Peru. Over the past several million years, the Amazon has become the world’s most bio-diverse place and Peru’s Amazon offers visitors some of the most prolific wildlife viewing opportunities in its five million acres. Experience the Amazon wilderness where it originates in Peru.

Adventure Awaits

The Amazon River, stretching over 4,000 miles, actually begins as a tiny stream in Peru’s Andes Mountains near Arequipa. This stream merges with other streams as they descend from the mountains and become larger and larger, finally forming the two main headwaters of the Amazon River in Peru. The Ucayali and the Maranon Rivers join together near the Peruvian city of Iquitos to form the mighty Amazon. The Amazon River carries more water than any other in the world and is responsible for nearly 1/5 of all the fresh water that flows into our oceans. The surrounding rainforest and the river itself support over 3,000 species of fish, 40,000 plant species, 1,300 bird species, 1,500 species of amphibian and reptile, and at least 500 mammals. That’s approximately 15% of the world’s total species found in one area covering 2.6 million square miles.

Built in 2015, the Delfin III ship allows guests to explore the Peruvian Amazon in the utmost comfort. This spacious and indulgent ship boasts an intimate atmosphere with only 22 suites, allowing a maximum of 44 guests on board. Each of these luxury suites features en-suite sitting areas, individual air conditioning, polished and sustainable wood flooring, and floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows that frame the Amazon Jungle as a spectacular backdrop. En-suite bathrooms include therapeutic bath amenities with eco-sensitive ingredients. Soft lighting, natural fibers, and neutral hues create a relaxing and luxuriously comfortable retreat. Your only decision is whether to take in the Amazon scenery from your luxury bedding or from the open-air deck with binoculars in hand. Twice-daily cabin service ensures that your suite is ready for your return, making the wilds of the Amazon seem a little tamer. The Delfin III is truly the best ship on the Amazon.
