The people you keep promising “next year,” and the Norwegian voyage that fits each of them.
You know who comes to mind.
Your mother, who brings up Alaska whenever a glacier appears on television. The friend whose birthday message ends with another promise to visit. Your partner, sitting across from you at dinner while you compare calendars and realize how little of the coming month belongs to you both.
Someone changes jobs, a weekend fills up, and the conversation slips back to “someday.”
A voyage gives that conversation somewhere to go. You choose a departure, unpack, and find yourselves at breakfast together again the next morning. There’s another day ahead, and neither of you needs to leave after coffee.
With Norwegian Cruise Line, the choice might be Alaska with a parent, Norway and Iceland with your partner, Hawaii with your son or daughter, or Japan and South Korea with an old friend. And if the calendar you most want to clear is your own, there’s a place for that too.

Bring Your Parent to the Alaska They Keep Talking About
Your mother stands beside you at the rail, binoculars resting against her coat. Across the water, a glacier’s face breaks into ridges and deep blue seams. You pass the binoculars back and forth, tracing the cracks from the water’s edge to the top of the ice.
For the parent who has spent years saying “someday” about Alaska, glacier viewing gives the trip its center. Norwegian Jade’s seven-night northbound voyage from Vancouver to Whittier, with a June 7, 2027 departure, puts the Inside Passage, Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan within one week. If your parent wants to see Hubbard Glacier, your advisor selects a departure that includes Disenchantment Bay, where its ice face meets the sea.
Take the Scenic Route Ashore
Away from the glacier, you choose the outings around your parent’s interests. In Skagway, you take a seat in a vintage White Pass & Yukon Route railway coach. The tracks climb past waterfalls and across trestles, following the route built during the Klondike gold rush. Your parent leans toward the window as the valley drops away.
In Juneau, you head out from Auke Bay on a whale-watching boat, scanning the water together for a humpback’s blow. In Ketchikan, carved figures at a totem park give you reason to slow down and listen to the stories behind them. Your advisor compares the walking, transfers, and excursion lengths with what your parent actually enjoys.
Keep Going After Whittier
If your parent wants to see Alaska beyond the coast, the northbound route leaves room to continue inland. You finish in Whittier rather than returning to Vancouver. If Denali belongs on their list, your advisor checks the rail connection to Anchorage, builds in the overnight stops, and reserves a few nights near the park before arranging the flight home.

Bring Your Partner Somewhere the Evening Stays Open
In Geiranger, you stop on the way down from an overlook and turn back toward the fjord. Waterfalls trace pale lines down the cliffs. Far below, Norwegian Prima looks small against the mountains, and there’s still enough light to make out the houses along the water.
At home, you’d be closing the curtains. Here, you’re deciding whether to take another walk.
Prima’s June 27, 2027 departure sails for 11 nights from Southampton to Reykjavík, with Geiranger scheduled until 10 p.m. That late departure gives you an evening ashore, provided you leave time for the return tender and the ship’s all-aboard deadline. The sun does set this far south in Norway, but summer gives you long evenings and a slow fade into twilight.
Keep the Evening for Yourselves
For an anniversary, a retirement, or a break after a demanding year, leave some of those daylight hours unclaimed. You finish an excursion and still have time to sit beside the fjord. Back aboard, you linger over dinner without losing the view to darkness.
In Bergen, you walk between Bryggen’s timber buildings and follow narrow passages away from the wharf. Ålesund brings a different kind of looking: towers, turrets, and Art Nouveau details above the street. You take a table outside a café, order two coffees, and decide where to walk next.
Stay a Little Longer in Iceland
After the Norwegian ports, the route continues to Akureyri in northern Iceland and Ísafjörður in the Westfjords before ending in Reykjavík on July 8. Keep two or three nights before the flight home to explore beyond the cruise ports. Your advisor arranges the transfer and hotel, then helps you choose between a longer countryside outing and days with less driving. An evening walk along Reykjavík’s waterfront still leaves plenty of light for the way back.

Bring Your Son or Daughter for a Week You Both Set Aside
You sit beside your son or daughter as the Road to Hāna curves along Maui’s north coast. Ferns crowd the hillsides, and breaks in the trees reveal the ocean below. At a waterfall stop, you step out into damp air and follow the sound of water through the greenery.
At lunch near Hāna, you sit with the ocean in view. They pick up the story they started over dinner, and you ask about the friend whose name keeps coming up in your calls.
Pride of America’s seven-night round trip from Honolulu visits four Hawaiian islands, with overnights on Maui and Kauai. Put the June 19, 2027 sailing on both calendars. The Maui overnight leaves time for a longer outing and another morning ashore.
Advisor tip: Allow a full day for the Road to Hāna. Your advisor compares guided drives for your sailing, checks the stops and time on the road, and arranges a shorter route if you’d rather save part of the day for the beach.
From Volcanic Ground to the Reef
Hilo and Kona give you consecutive days on different coasts of Hawaii Island. From Hilo, you head inland to Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, where steam rises from vents in the ground. In Kona, you board a boat for Kealakekua Bay, pull on fins, and follow your son or daughter into the water. Fish move above the coral beneath you. You surface together to compare what you’ve spotted.
On Kauai, you look down into Waimea Canyon’s red slopes and green ravines, then leave time for a beach stop before dinner. The overnight gives you a second morning ashore. If the Nā Pali Coast is the view you want to share, your advisor checks the sailing’s scenic cruising schedule and compares boat excursions for a closer look at its folded cliffs.
You unpack once for all four islands, and U.S. citizens don’t need a passport for this Hawaii-only cruise. Include the flights to and from Honolulu when you compare calendars. If you can arrive a day early, you start with a swim at Waikīkī Beach and dinner together in Honolulu.
Bring the Friend You Keep Promising “Next Year”
By your sixth day aboard Norwegian Jade, you’re in Beppu, where steam rises between buildings and hot spring water feeds baths across the city. You leave your shoes at the entrance to an onsen, a Japanese hot spring bath, and follow the washing routine before stepping into the water.
If you choose a private bath suitable for the two of you, you can settle in together. Your shoulders drop below the surface. A conversation that usually takes three interrupted phone calls finally has time to wander.
Catch Up Between Ports
Beppu is one stop on Jade’s nine-night April 1, 2027 voyage from Incheon, the port for Seoul, to Yokohama, the gateway to Tokyo. Between them, you visit Jeju and a string of Japanese ports, with a different place to explore each day. You don’t have to negotiate train connections or haul your bags through another station to reach the next one.
For the friend who moved away, or the college roommate you mostly see through a screen, the unfamiliar places give you plenty to talk about before you even get to your own lives. On Jeju, you follow the volcanic coast. In Kagoshima, Sakurajima rises across the bay, an active volcano within sight of the city.
Advisor tip: Have your advisor check Beppu's bath arrangements and admission policies against your time ashore, or suggest a footbath if you'd prefer. For Kyoto, Jade docks in Osaka, so they compare transfer times with the port hours before you choose a guide."
Leave Room for Spring, and for Tokyo
Early April may coincide with cherry blossom season in western and central Japan. Bloom dates shift with the weather and vary between cities. If the trees are flowering in Hiroshima, you follow the Motoyasu River beneath pale pink branches, stopping when your friend spots a place to sit beside the water.
Give Hiroshima’s Peace Memorial Park and Museum an unhurried part of the day. Inside the museum, you move through photographs, survivors’ accounts, and personal belongings recovered after the bombing. Afterward, you walk through the park before finding a counter for okonomiyaki, Hiroshima’s savory pancake, cooked on a hot griddle. The scheduled 8 p.m. departure leaves room for a meal before you return to the ship.
Keep two or three nights in Tokyo after disembarking in Yokohama. In Shinjuku’s Omoide Yokocho, you turn into a narrow lane beneath red lanterns, with smoke drifting from the grills. You find two seats at a counter and order chicken skewers. A plate arrives between you, and you each reach for one while the cook starts the next batch.

Or Bring No One at All
You take your coffee into Norwegian Prima’s Studio Lounge. You can join a friend you’ve made aboard to talk through the day’s plans, or settle by yourself and finish your cup before deciding.
Prima’s Studio staterooms are designed and priced for one, with access to a private Studio Lounge. Your advisor compares the available solo cabin categories for your sailing, including the space and view you want.
Choose Company When You Want It
On Norwegian Prima’s 11-night voyage from Southampton to Reykjavík, departing June 27, 2027, you choose each day’s outings for yourself. In Ålesund, you follow Kongens gate past Art Nouveau façades, stopping to photograph a turret or step into a café. From Akureyri, you head out to Goðafoss, where water pours over a horseshoe-shaped rim.
Book your Goðafoss outing ahead, then leave Ålesund’s cafés and waterfront for a day on foot.

Keep the Promise
Open the conversation you’ve been postponing. Ask your parent which part of Alaska they picture when they talk about going. Send your partner the Norway and Iceland route. Put the Hawaii dates in front of your son or daughter, or ask your friend whether April is finally the month you can both clear.
You don’t need to arrive with every excursion chosen. Start with the person, the time you can take, and the day you most want to share. Then compare flights, cabins, and how long to stay after the cruise.
And if you’re going alone, put the departure on your own calendar.
Give “next year” a departure date.
