The Best of What to Do and See in Mykonos

Perhaps the most famous of all the Greek islands, Mykonos is renowned for its super clubs, dazzling beaches, panoramic ocean views and  being a lure for the rich and beautiful. We've put together a list of some of the top beaches, sights and dining spots on the island that you shouldn't miss.

Must See Beaches

Mykonos has some of the best beaches in the Mediterranean, if not the world. Famous for their golden sand, crystal clear waters, beach bars and water sports, Paradise Beach and Super Paradise Beach are the top party beaches in Greece. Elia Beach is Mykonos' unofficial nude beach and is well kept and tends to not be as crowded as some of the other touristy spots. Psarou, Platys Gialos, Agia Anna, Paraga and Paradise Beach are all connected by a coastal footpath. A day of swimming, snorkeling, wining and dining along these 5 beaches will surely be the highlight of any trip. If you're too tired to walk back, water taxis are available.

History & Sites

Much of Mykonos' charm comes from the simple beauty of Greek windmills, whitewashed houses clinging to the hills and enchanting tavernas with terraces open to the sky and the sea air. A great way to see the Mykonos town is on a walking tour that will showcase the lifestyle and the true history of this unique settlement. Step inside the Archaeological Museum and stroll through the narrow streets packed with Cycladic houses. You will come to appreciate the fact that this confusing layout was designed to foil attacking pirates. In picture-perfect Little Venice, named for its striking resemblance to the famous canal city, the famous windmills of Mykonos offer a wonderful photo opportunity. Stop at a traditional bakery dating back to the fifteenth century that is still functioning today. It is one of the few bakeries in Greece that still uses wood ovens.

Where to Eat in Mykonos

Little Venice is a street full of shops, trendy bars and restaurants on the seashore, beside Mykonos' windmills. This area is known for its fine dining and is the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail and watch the sunset. Many restaurants here serve excellent traditional Greek specialties like souvlaki and moussaka but don't forget to call ahead and make a reservation!

Ana Mera is the second largest town and one of the most traditional on the island but surprisingly isn't overrun with tourists. Here you'll find charming restaurants, shops and cafes. At the main square you can savor a taste of ouzo, the local licorice-flavored liqueur and a mezedes snack of Greek specialties.
