Just One More Minute
You take your coffee to the rail, meaning to stay for a minute. Along Alaska’s Inside Passage, spruce reaches the waterline, and another forested headland keeps you looking. You go back for binoculars instead of breakfast.
On Bonaire in the Caribbean, you keep your mask on for one more look at the reef. In Québec City, an October walk becomes a detour into a café, then another street you hadn’t meant to take.
Which coast would you be least ready to leave?
Alaska: Keep the Binoculars Close
At Hubbard Glacier, you find a crease of blue through the binoculars, then lower them to see how little of the ice you were looking at. You listen for ice breaking from the glacier’s face and keep your jacket zipped, even in July. Ice and weather determine how close the ship can approach.
June and July bring long evenings within the main May–September cruise season. Around the June solstice, Juneau has close to eighteen hours of daylight, leaving time to watch the coast after a day ashore.
A Capital Without a Highway
Near Juneau, you head out to look for humpbacks, then return to a waterfront shared by fishing boats and floatplanes. No highway connects Alaska’s capital to the outside world. Arriving by ship links it with other coastal communities without separate flights or ferry arrangements.
Leave time for the Walter Soboleff Building, where contemporary Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian art brings you closer to the people of this coast. For several nights at a lodge near Denali, you need time inland before or after the sailing, or a land journey built around that stay.
The Caribbean: Change Islands, Change the Day
On Bonaire, yellow stones beside the coastal road mark dive sites. At 1000 Steps, you descend 67 steps to a cove edged with pale coral rubble. The name makes more sense on the way back up. For now, you pull on your mask and look into the reef. Before choosing a snorkeling outing, check how you reach the water and get back out, particularly if stairs or uneven footing are a concern.
Curaçao keeps you in walking shoes a little longer. Along Willemstad’s Handelskade, gabled façades face the harbor in ochre, blue, and coral. Behind them, Punda’s streets lead toward lunch at Plasa Bieu, the old market. April falls within Curaçao’s driest stretch, February through June, giving you a useful starting point for dates. Check the other islands on your route, since their rainfall patterns differ.
In St. Kitts, you look down at the sea from Brimstone Hill’s fortress ramparts. Leave time to explore on foot and stop for the view before heading back to the coast.
A ship connects those changes without an airport between them. If you want a reef one day and a market the next, that variety is the draw. If you want the same beach tomorrow, stay longer on one island, with time to find a favorite lunch spot and become a familiar face there.
Canada & New England: Leave Time for the Detour
In Québec City, you slow down for the windows along Petit-Champlain, then look up at streets climbing toward the upper town. Late September and early October often bring fall color, though the leaves keep their own schedule. Come for the cooler walks, galleries, and lunches you would rather not rush, with autumn color a possibility along the way.
In Saint John, you can watch a river run backward. The Bay of Fundy’s incoming tide pushes water upstream at Reversing Falls Rapids. The water briefly calms between changes of direction, so have your advisor check with a local guide when the rapids are active and whether that fits your ship’s visit.
A cruise connects these cities and harbors without changing hotels. For dinner in town, look for an overnight stop. If you want three days exploring Québec City’s neighborhoods, choose a land stay or arrange one separately around the voyage, with time to return to the café you find on the first morning.

Juneau’s scheduled 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. visit is worth comparing with a whale outing and the Walter Soboleff Building. Your advisor can check tour duration, museum hours, and travel time while allowing for the required return to the ship.
The Caribbean, With Time to Stay Aboard
Seven Seas Mariner sails 14 nights from Miami to New York on April 15, 2027, visiting seven islands, including Curaçao, Bonaire, and St. Kitts. Six days are spent cruising, three consecutively in the Atlantic before New York. Bring the book you keep meaning to finish. If you would rather step ashore almost every day, compare a route with fewer days at sea.
Canada & New England, With an Evening in Boston
Seven Seas Grandeur departs Montréal on October 2, 2027, for 11 nights to Boston, with stops including Québec City, Halifax, and Saint John. Québec City gets a 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. visit. Boston gets an overnight on October 12 before you leave the ship the next day, leaving an evening for dinner ashore.

Back Aboard, Before Dinner
Each of these Regent ships accommodates fewer than 750 guests. After a day on Québec’s hills, you take off your shoes and order something to your suite. Room service is available around the clock and included, along with laundry and specialty restaurants. Dining reservations are subject to availability. On Mariner’s Atlantic days, there is time to settle over lunch and stay for another conversation after dinner.
Regent’s Unlimited Shore Excursions program includes a choice of tours, while Regent Choice experiences cost extra. Ask your advisor to compare the actual outings with your preferred pace, including walking distances and time on a bus. Space is limited on individual tours. If private guides and meals ashore are your priority, weigh those additional costs against how much of the included experience you would use.
The Suite Comes First
For the 2027 departures here, reach out to your advisor now if suite location or layout matters. For a later season, start when itineraries open for booking. Compare actual layouts and available rooms for a separate bedroom, space to sit outside, or two suites near each other. Availability in a suite type does not guarantee your preferred location.
Excursion reservations usually open 180 days before sailing. Concierge Suites and above get 210 days, as do members with Silver status or higher in Regent’s loyalty program. Confirm your own opening date and prepare a shortlist. For the April 15 Caribbean sailing, the 180-day window opens October 17, 2026, so there is already a reason to start choosing your days ashore.
One More Look
You lower the binoculars at Hubbard and look again, trying to take in the whole face of the glacier. On Bonaire, you pause on the steps and turn back toward the water. In Québec City, you leave the café already wishing you had another morning here.
